About

Hello! I’m Angela (she/her), a counsellor and psychologist based in Calgary, Alberta.

Having worked in both private practice and agency settings, I have had the privilege of honing my strengths and passion for working with individuals who have experienced depression, anxiety, anger, addiction, abuse, family/relationship issues, and religious trauma. My work also focuses on supporting self-identified people-pleasers who struggle with boundaries, burnout, and issues of self-worth.

I view counselling as a collaborative process and my approach to change is relational and holistic. It encompasses physical, emotional, psychological, and spiritual aspects of well-being. I love to ask questions to get clients to think more deeply about their values and situations. I also grasp the need for nuanced and realistic strategies that are tailored to my clients’ strengths and unique situations. In practice, I utilize an eclectic approach, which means I combine various forms of evidence-based treatments to adapt to the needs and goals of my clients. I am also trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and the Gottman Method approach to couples counselling.

My life experiences have shaped me into the counsellor that I am. Like all my clients, adversities have played a role in my story, but themes of healing, joy, connection, and radical self-compassion have also been fruits borne from these experiences. Therapy changed my life, and I am passionate about my call to empower clients reclaim their humanness, embrace mutuality in relationships, and take steps towards their own definition of a life worth living.

It is my aim and honour to provide practical and trauma-informed care to adults, couples, and youth (12+) who reside in the province of Alberta.

The Bud Before the Bloom

The name Bloomtree Therapy is inspired by my love of greenery and the beautiful fruit trees that bloomed in the backyard of my old home. There was always much excitement when the first tree buds started to form. These little buds signalled spring, and the awakening of a soon-to-be canopy of colours, lushness, and life after some long, dormant months of winter!

If you have been experiencing your own dormant or stormy season, or if you have taken a beating from the elements, life can feel disorienting. Perhaps you have been in survival mode for a long time. I get that you can both yearn for spring and find the idea of change somewhat scary and intimidating.

You are not alone. Just as a tender bud comes before the bloom, so can a small step plant the seed of potential for a more expansive and hopeful future. That step could be a conversation. With curiosity and compassion, we can plan, explore, and journey together.

Book with me today.
